Buckswood School is the story of how a small British school was able to maintain its authenticity and at the same time become a successful English educational project.
At the beginning of its history, in 1933, Buckswood School populated old country estates away from civilization. The quiet provincial atmosphere created a special flavor of a new British school whose target audience was the children of parents who were permanently abroad.
Thus, from its early years Buckswood School has been characterized as an international English school with a strong language bias. It was located a short distance from Crawley (where the current Gatwick International Airport is located). As part of studying at Buckswood School of English, not only actively studied foreign languages, but also participated in special educational and recreational games, as well as learning to ride at the British school's own stables.
As for many British schools, the World Wars were events that boded well for change. During the war Buckswood School was stationed in Axfield, a town of thousands located practically by the English Channel. Buckswood School moved several more times in subsequent history.
In the 70's Buckswood School expected significant changes. Previously a modest little English school received from the British Council official status as a language school. During this period, Buckswood School changed location several times, drawing the outline of a circle on the map, and only in 2000 it remained in its present location: in the village of Hastling, which is located between Ashford and Hastings.
Today's Buckswood School is a beautifully restored 16th-century manor house, Broomham Hall. Like that colorful Buckswood School from the twentieth century, the school is once again nestled in beautiful, quiet surroundings, three miles east of Hastings.
The British school sits on 43 acres of land an hour and a half by train to London. It also has its own stables. There are also 150 students from 45 countries and 150 local students. By general standards Buckswood School has retained its quiet color, but is already a school of very decent level, having its own sports academies, indoor pool, the center of the variety arts and a lot of sports facilities.
